SOUL 4th SUNDAY - May 26th, 2 - 5 pm - Candelo Town Hall
Bring your heart and besties and we’ll bring the music and cornbread!
It’s a chance to wind down, catch up and groove on to the band (choose your own adventure!) and we will keep things cozy and tasty … this is an experiment in hanging out and taking it all in.
It’s a “pay-what-you-wish” kind of deal, the contributions raised goes straight into keeping the musicians in tip-top shape and the polenta… plentiful!
You never know who’s going to take to the stage floor and join in on tunes new and old, there’s always surprise guests and things often get rather improvised, in the best possible way.
Music + Dance + Conversation + Heart = SOUL 4th SUNDAY!
Oh, and Candelo Arts Society would also like to thank the Mumbulla Community Foundation for their contributions in shoring up a good handful of these Soul 4th Sundays. The dream is to make this an enduring and self sustaining good time for us all :)

Robyn Martin Band and Benji & The Saltwater Sound System are combining forces for a spectacular salty and sweet show in Candelo on the 11th May.
Robyn Martin will celebrate the launch of her homegrown debut album 'Milk & Honey' . A special gig with a full band of the incredible musicians who helped make the album, including a horn section, plus the soulful Djinama Yilaga choir who feature on two tracks.
As the saying goes, a dash of salt brings out the best in everything… and when it comes to music it doesn’t get more appetising than Benji & The Saltwater Sound System. Fusing Pacific flavours with the raw rolling sounds of the Australian Pacific Coast, Benji & The Saltwater Sound System are groove merchants garnished with sweet guitar licks and feet pounding horns.
With 6 piece band in tow, including an incredible line up of musicians, these shows will be heartfelt and high energy and will close the night with a jumping dance floor.

Kevin Welch (USA) and Heath Cullen Together in Concert w/ Lillian McVeity (opening)
Candelo Arts Society is proud to present Kevin Welch and Heath Cullen together in concert, following on from their sold out appearance at the 2023 Headland Writers Festival.
Kevin Welch's career as a recording artist and producer spans four decades. He is known worldwide for his solo work, his collaborations with The Dead Reckoners, The Flood, and Kane/Welch/Kaplin — his legendary trio with Kieran Kane and Fats Kaplin which was nominated two years in a row for Best Group by the Americana Music Association. He has written songs for Roger Miller, Waylon Jennings, The Highwaymen, Solomon Burke, Linda Ronstadt, Patty Loveless, and many others.
Over the last decade, Heath Cullen has crafted four landmark albums and earned a trail of devotees across his native Australia, the UK, Europe and North America. As a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, he has collaborated on stage and in the studio with a vast array of artists, including Jolie Holland, Marc Ribot, Joe Henry, Elvis Costello’s Imposters and The Waifs, and his music has been recorded by artists as diverse as Michael Menager and Daniel Lanois.
This tour sees the two artists together on stage in an intimate and impromptu song-swap setting. For those who were lucky enough to witness their Headland show, you all know how truly special it was, and the fellas have promised that this concert will showcase even more of their masterful songwriting and musicianship... And for those that missed out on tickets last time: whatever you do, make sure you don't miss this one!
We at CAS are equally excited to be showcasing the talents of Lillian McVeity as the evenings’ opening act.
Lillian is a young singer/songwriter based in Bermagui. Her musical style include excludes clear jazz/neo-soul/folk influences although her first single, “Hearts in December” exhibits a more indie pop oriented sound. Her song was also featured on Triple J’s Unearthed. Lillian has been performing around her local area since the age of 12, playing at a number of venues and festivals. Supporting the likes of Joe Camilleri, Alex Lloyd and Daniel Champagne. She is now focusing on her solo songwriting career and plans to release her album within the next year. Her guitar playing and vocal harmonies (which she achieves through vocal looping) create a muted and relaxed atmosphere.

THIS IS US: A Community Banner Celebration & Bush Dance
We are having a BIG shindig and everyone is invited!
For the past 8 months a whole bunch of creative hands & good hearts have been collaborating/contributing/volunteering/stitching/stretching/imagining together an incredible collection of textile banners called “This Is Us” - beautiful, large storied pieces of art that playfully explore what it means to practice community together.
Over 300 people of diverse ages and abilities joined in this project! (Amazing!)
From Cobargo Folk Festival punters to Candelo Public School students to random folks on the street…so many hands helped bring this whimsical project to life.
The Candelo Arts Society is excited to have been able to make this big community art project happen and are super thankful for the financial support of the Mumbulla Community Foundation and Bega Valley Shire Community Grants Program that provided the funds to back it. Bega Valley Shire Council is also helping to support this most excellent celebration event through their Community Hall Odyssey project (thanks BVSC!).
We want to celebrate what our community has collaboratively created together AND celebrate our beautiful Candelo Town Hall where the finished banners will hang for our village to enjoy - what better way to do this than with a bush dance courtesy of our mates, the Kameruka Bush Orchestra!
Come and join us!
